It is said that when the sea is too silent and the stars disappear behind the clouds, a soft glow can emerge beneath the surface. The phibilum, a rare creature, then drifts slowly around lost ships.
Its translucent body pulses with an orange light, like a living breath, and its gills quiver as they follow the currents. Unlike earthly will-o'-the-wisps, the phibilum does not seek to mislead: it guides. Sailors swear that following its glow always leads to safer waters… provided one never tries to capture it.
For while its light saves the lost, it immediately extinguishes in the face of greed, leaving behind a black, motionless sea, as if the ocean itself were holding its breath.
